The GED® is a great option for parents who need an alternative to the mainstream school system but who are hesitant to home educate their teens or feel they don’t have time for homeschooling, because they work full-time.
Some think you have to be able to teach challenging high school subjects – you don’t!
The online GED® prep course is the solution for students who are age 15 or older.
The GED® is an American Year 13 alternative which is recognised in New Zealand and internationally. Students can take the exams as soon as they have turned 17. When combined with the SAT, a one-off American college entrance exam, students can meet the requirements for admission to university.
Why is the GED hassle-free?
At Lime Feather Learning, we offer a self-paced online study programme to help students prepare for the GED® exams and this is the tool that makes it easy for hesitant-to-homeschool or full-time employed parents to take their children out of school and educate them at home.
The course is designed for self-study, so parents don’t have to teach.
It has video tutorials to teach kids new concepts, plus practice activities, quizzes and practice tests that they can use to assess their mastery of the skills they have learnt. Generally, students can cope on their own and discover that they can even master subjects that they previously battled with at school, now that they are free to progress at their own pace. If they do find they need more help, they can contact us to arrange a session with a face-to-face tutor online.
No Lesson Prep, No Marking – just a Check-in
For parents it means that you don’t have to plan or teach lessons or mark your child’s work. You can simply login to the student’s dashboard and view their daily, weekly or monthly progress. You can see their scores for lessons and tests and see how many hours they’ve spent studying.
While some students are highly motivated and eagerly progress with their work, there is the odd one that pretends to study, but doesn’t, so parents should check-in and view their progress, at least once a week!
We recommend that students should aim for a minimum of just two hours a day, probably three at the most, so that they also have time for other interests and valuable life experiences, preferable off-screen, such as sport, hobbies, reading, other courses, a business venture or a part-time job.
There are only four subjects and one exam for each subject that students can take, any time of year at the NZ test centre in Auckland’s CBD. We recommend preparing for each exam and then taking it right away before continuing with the next subject.
Hassle-free Enrolment
It’s so easy. No reports or paperwork are needed to get started. All we need is the student’s name, email address and proof of payment for the course of choice. Candidates will need a government issued form of ID that includes a photo later, when they take the tests – a passport or learner’s or driver’s license is accepted.
For students who are age 15 or in Year 10, we offer a GED Beginners programme. This only covers Maths and English, so we recommend using other home education programmes to cover Social Studies, Science and anything else that interests your children.
For students aged 16 and older (or Year 11 or higher), the online GED® prep course covers all four subjects:
Maths
Science
Social Studies
Reasoning through Language Arts (English)
